The Central City SRO Collaborative was established in 2001 to organize with Single Room Occupancy (SRO) tenants in San Francisco's Central City neighborhoods including the Tenderloin and South of Market. SROs are small single room living spaces, generally with no kitchen and shared bathrooms. They are the largest supply of low-cost rental housing in San Francisco. There are over 500 SRO residential hotels in San Francisco that are home to more than 30,000 low-income residents. These 'hotels' are infamous for dilapidation, poor maintenance, and numerous building and health code violations. This website is designed to encourage and facilitate community organizing in Central City SROs, improve tenants' access to pertinent tenant's rights information, and access to city and state building and health codes.
